Have you ever wonder that along with a like button why dont the Facebook has a "dislike" button with its ubiquitous "like" button?
I have some very personal thoughts that I would like to share here.
If the Facebook had a "dislike" button then:
* Before just throwing anything and everything on the Facebook by the mercy of "share" button people would think twice. Because then if you share something annoying and irritating you are gonna punished by swallowing a "minus rating" through the dislike button. This would radically decrease the volume of activity in Facebook.
* If you see anyone disliking your post then what would happen with him? Unlike blogging facebook shows who likes your post. Then if it were to create a dislike button the it must had to show who disliked it as well. Then it is very natural that unpleasant feeling will grow in the mind of person who had to "swallow" that dislike. Ego and public exposure is behind this kinda feeling. This will gradually engender the relation between concerned two person and it is natural that this will tend into even deleting one another from friend list. And of course it will decrease the volume of activity in facebook.

These are my tow hypotheses. My confidence level about these two hypotheses is significant and my conclusion is if Facebook had a "dislike" button then the volume of activity in Facebook would be decreased exponentially and definitely that would refrain some people from using Facebook at least for sometimes. This would surely decrease Facebooks business.
Interesting and convincing hypothesis. You can test the hypothesis over a group and find different implications.
